We'll be kayaking from the Bullfrog Marina boat ramp in Bullfrog, UT, on Lake Powell. This is a flat water paddle with little to no current. The lake surface is at 3652 feet (1113 meters) elevation above sea level.
Paddlers will move west on Lake Powell southwest (toward the Iceberg Canyon), then returning to Bullfrog for the bike transition. This will be an out and back course.
The total paddle distance will be 15 or 30 miles (short or long course, respectively).
Your kayak should be at least 10.5 feet long. No canoes for tandem racers. The reason: You're unlikely to make the cutoff if you don't have a descent boat.
A 14' fiberglass or carbon fiber boat gives you the fastest and easiest race experience.
Kayaks will be available for rent from Ticaboo Resort Marina, phone (844) 662-2628
Rentals will be $50 for the kayak... we're working to get a race discount
A campsite will be available for paddlers on the water overnight. Paddlers should plan to have their food, water purifier, and tent in their boat with them.
There will be two powered boats on the lake with race officials and emergency personnel.
Support will be very limited on the kayak portion because there is only ONE spot along the course with road access (the Bullfrog Marina where we start and finish).
